Nintendo Trade-mark Confirms Wii Fit Plus, Art Academy

A recent discovery of Japanese trade-mark filings confirm Nintendo has trademarked the name Wii Fit Plus (see logo above), as well as a mysterious (and possible new) franchise by the name Art Academy. While we’re more than familiar with the Wii Fit brand, the discovery of the latter could hold many surprises for those looking to express themselves creativity (perhaps an answer to Mario Paint?).
Although word first came of Nintendo’s alleged plan to introduce the next chapter in Wii Fit, given its month of discovery was April and the company’s penchant for producing ‘evergreen’(i.e. long-lasting) titles for their platforms, the speculation seemed just that.
Whether or not the recent Japanese trademark for Wii Fit Plus signals a direct Wii follow-up, or perhaps hides surprise DS-connectivity remains to be seen. While many questioned the commercial prospects of a fitness-themed videogame when Nintendo first unveiled the software during the 2007 E3 conference, the company heads into the 2009 showing two years later and 15+ million units stronger. Expect more details on both Wii Fit Plus and Art Academy when the show officially takes root next week!
